No real surprises here but Property, Property, Property…

The job market overall is on the increase with a big uptake in companies hiring this year, which is fantastic for the economy and anyone considering a new opportunity. But it is Property Law job ads that take the top spot and have seen a staggering 130% increase. The job ad increase percentage for each role compares job ad numbers listed September–November 2020 with June–August 2020. To be honest, if we were to further compare with this current period, that percentage would be considerably higher still. This is not at all surprising, in the last two weeks alone I have picked up 8 roles in the Property sector and a quick look at seek or LinkedIn it would seem nearly every firm in Auckland is currently hiring in this space.

One surprising outcome of the pandemic seems to be the property boom we are seeing at present and over the last six to twelve months. Influenced by different drivers such as those returning from overseas to the safety of New Zealand, banks offering historically low interest rates and the removal of LVR’s.

This has resulted in increased numbers of settlements with several mid-tier, top-tier and boutique firms now on the lookout for Property Solicitors, Legal Secretaries and Legal Executives to assist in growing their teams to meet the demand in conveyancing.

Whilst Property took the top spot, there were four other legal roles in the top twenty list.  Corporate/Commercial Law saw an increase of 101%, Law Clerks and Paralegals 94% and Generalists 88%.
